With your natural teeth gone, it's time to come up with the best replacement option. You’ve heard of something called all on four, but what does that mean? Is it the best option? Here are some basics that you should know about this alternative that will help you make the right decision.

What is All on Four?

This is an implant option that does not require the insertion of individual implants to replace each of your former teeth. The process calls for inserting four implants in the upper or lower jaw. Once they are firmly settled, you receive a permanent dental plate that resembles a full set of upper or lower teeth. Many dental professionals provide a temporary plate on the day you receive the implants. You’ll come back for a custom made permanent plate in a few days.

When is All on 4 the Best Option?

Opting for the All on Four solution is the best way to go when you hate the idea of wearing dentures and are concerned about how the contours of your jaw will shift in the years to come. This approach is also excellent when you would prefer to not invest the time and discomfort involved in having a series of individual implants inserted. In some cases, this approach is also a good one when you are not deemed to be a good candidate for individual implants.

Are All on Four Implants Permanent?

Your All on Four in Markham is a permanent solution. Provided your bone structure remains sturdy, the supporting implants will remain in position the rest of your life. The dental plates are also made to last. If they are damaged in any way, repairing or replacing them is a simple process. Compare that with having to invest in new dentures every five to seven years.

Will I Receive Sedation?

You will receive light sedation prior to the procedure. This will help if you feel anxious about being in the dental chair for so long and also help keep the general discomfort to a minimum. Agents to deaden the tissue at the points where the implants will be inserted will also be given, The goal is to keep you comfortable for the entire procedure.

Remember that with any type of sedation, it’s important to have a friend or relative along to drive you home. It may take a few hours after the work is done before the effects are completely over.

How Long Does it Take to Recover?

Since you are receiving a limited number of implants, any swelling should subside in a matter of days. You will receive something to help with any post-surgical pain. By the time your permanent dental plate is ready, you will be fine. Most people do not experience any All on Four problems other than feeling some soreness in the days following the procedure.

Will I Still Need to See a Dentist Regularly?

You will still see your dentist in Markham for annual checkups, periodic dental cleanings, and other routine maintenance. That’s one of the nice things about the overall All on Four cost. Much of your dental care remains much as it was when you still had natural teeth.

It's been a while since I've been to a dentist but I'm trying to get back on track with health in general. Overall it was great going to Markham Smile Centre! The receptionist (I believe she was Kim) was friendly. The hygienist, Ying, was attentive and gentle during the cleaning; x-ray tech (forgot her name, sorry!) was great too. Dr. Sara Riad explained things with good detail. Looking forward to going back!

The clinic was clean and the staff was very polite. I particularly liked the fact that everything was explained to me before going in for the procedure so I knew what to expect at each step. The dental hygienist who did the cleaning for me was also very gentle and took my concerns into consideration. I will definitely recommend them.

Since I was little, I have always hated going to the dentist... Its always uncomfortable and unpleasant. These days, visiting the dentist isn’t so bad! Dr Jason, Rory, and the lovely staff at reception make the experience 100x better. I have had absolutely no issues with the gum graft and cleanings that I’ve gotten done here. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful, even when I’m calling in or emailing a hundred questions :). I would highly recommend Markham Smile Centre.
